Following a brief run of disappointing results, Sydney-s female contingent will take plenty of confidence into the top-of-the-table contest after getting their campaign back on track with a hard-fought win over local derby rivals, the Central Coast Mariners last Saturday night.
That match marked the comeback of FC Captain, Heather Garriock, who-s been battling to overcome a troublesome hip injury.
“It was a trial run to see how it would pull up under a game situation but in saying that it was only 10 minutes and I only touched the ball probably 5 times,” the skipper explained. “The physio was I think content, I wouldn-t say he was happy, but in terms of whether I play again this week, we-ve got a few decisions to make.”
This Saturday-s battle looks set to take on titanic proportions with both sides out to prove a point in the run towards the finals.
“It-s always a big game Queensland against Sydney, but especially with us being 2nd and them 1st,” said Garriock. “It-s going to be a tough game and very exciting because we know each other-s games inside out. They-ve got pretty much the full national team in their starting line-up and it will be a good test of where we-re at.”
“Week in, week out we-ve been playing but we haven-t played to our potential yet, I don-t think and I think it-ll be a big test on the weekend. It would be good to rise to the challenge.”
The fight for top spot on the Westfield W-League ladder will be contested at Brisbane-s Ballymore Oval on Saturday afternoon, with live television coverage on the ABC from 4pm.
