Uncharted Territory For Mullen

While not readily known to him, Sydney FC mature age rookie Alex Mullen is looking forward to tackling uncharted territory and taking on Melbourne City in round one of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season.

Mullen, who signed his first ever professional contract with the Sky Blues in August, said it will be the highlight of his career to step out on to the Allianz Stadium turf, if he is picked in the first game on Saturday 10 October.

“Living in America it has been real hard to keep up to date with everything,” Mullen said.

“Obviously they’re a new team coming in in the last few years but I can’t say I know too much. The coaching staff will surely keep us up to date though and make sure we need to know everything.

“I can’t wait to step out at Allianz. It’s probably the pinnacle of my career so far and to be involved in a team like Sydney FC and put my skills on display in front of the fans is something I’m truly looking forward to.

“I think we’ve done most of the hard work already and I think it’s been a very physical last few weeks. We’re ready to rock and roll.

”I’m looking to make myself available and be ready to make an influence to the team. Hopefully I can give whatever I can to be successful.”

The Adelaide born 23 year old said he is trying to learn as much as he can in his professional role and admitted the intensity levels required were the biggest shock upon his signing.

“I’m honestly loving my time at Sydney FC,” he said.

“I’m enjoying the professionalism of everything, it’s my first time in a professional role so to be full time I’m learning a lot and trying to take on as much as I can.

“I think the biggest challenge for me in terms of football is the intensity level.

“You’re training every day and the intensity is right up there. Obviously the A-League is a very physical league and I’ve been trying to get that match fitness early on in preseason.”
