Two Sydney Derbies, the opening match of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season and a home match against Brisbane Roar on Boxing Day are the highlights for Sydney FC following the release of the 2013/14 draw today.
Australia-s football focus will be on Allianz Stadium on Friday 11 October when the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season kicks off with a replay of last year-s epic round two clash between Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets, which saw 35,000 people witness the home debut of Alessandro Del Piero.
Two weeks later, following a trip to Suncorp Stadium, Allianz Stadium will be dripping with emotion with the first of two Sydney Derbies to take place at the Sky Blues home. Sydney football fans can mark down Saturday 26 October for the 4th edition of the “Sydney Derby”.
Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers will also do battle at Allianz Stadium on Saturday 8 March 2014 with the Parramatta Stadium clash taking place on Saturday 11 January 2014.
The other exciting addition to the Sydney FC match fixture is a home game on Boxing Day (26 December) against Brisbane Roar, the first time the Sky Blues have played a match on the day when Australia-s sporting attention is at its most parochial.
Sky Blues fans are also in for a big start to the 2013/14 season as the opening match and round 3 “Sydney Derby” are followed by the Big Blue against Melbourne Victory in round 5 at Allianz Stadium on Saturday 9 November.
Sydney FC will play 14 home matches out of the 27 rounds in 2013/14 with two Friday night games, eight Saturday night games, three Sunday afternoon matches and the Thursday afternoon Boxing Day clash.
“It-s a draw that offers plenty of excitement for Sydney FC Members and fans ,” said Sydney FC Tony Pignata. “Two Sydney derbies at Allianz Stadium will certainly give our fans plenty to get excited about, especially the round 3 clash on 26 October.
“We open the A-League season by hosting Newcastle Jets, which will be a huge match as it was last year when more than 35,000 people saw Alessandro Del Piero make his home debut.
“Our Members and fans can also look forward to an action-packed start to the season with the Big Blue clash with Melbourne Victory following the opening match and the first Sydney Derby.
“The Boxing Day clash with Brisbane Roar is another date to mark in the diary and late in the season we finish with back-to-back home matches on Sunday afternoons, including the final regular season home match for Alessandro Del Piero on Sunday 13 April.
“Our Members and fans also voted overwhelmingly in favour of Saturday night matches and we have been handed eight matches at Allianz Stadium in that timeslot.”
