Sydney FC defender Tori Tumeth has revealed that the Sky Blue women are raising the bar ahead of a crucial eight match stint at Leichhardt Oval.
With a tough contest against Brisbane Roar on Friday evening fast approaching, Tumeth is ready to take it up a notch and bring home a successful rest of the season for the Members.
“We versed them earlier in the season and we didn’t put up a performance to our standards by any means, but we have reflected on that game and will continue to do so through the week.
“I am really excited to see what we can be and what we are aiming to be when we reach that really important part of the season on the back end.
“Our standards are so high at Sydney FC but each week we are learning and we are growing, and we are gelling as a unit.”
Head Coach Ante Juric delivered similar sentiments after a 0-0 round eight match-up against ladder leaders Perth Glory.
“We are trying to build a team and the fluency is getting a lot better and I can see the signs are getting there.
“They’re starting to get it, they’re starting to understand the selflessness we play with and positivity and relentlessness going forward,” he said.
After an international debut at club level in the AFC Women’s Club Championship in Uzbekistan this year, the young gun said the Sky Blues have been prioritising learning as a team as they strive for back-to-back Championships.
“We got interrupted by going over to play in Uzbekistan but now that we are back, we are definitely building.
“We are learning how each other plays and bonding as a team on and off the field,” Tumeth said.
The Sydney FC women will call Leichhardt Oval home for the next eight rounds of the Liberty A-League season. Sydney FC’s squad created a league record in their last A-League Women’s match at Leichhardt Oval in February 2022 after securing a consecutive 8th clean sheet.
Tumeth is excited for the return at Leichhardt Oval and hopes it becomes a great atmosphere for fans.
“I am so excited to play at Leichhardt Oval. We checked out the pitch today and it is in perfect condition.
“It is such a great, intimate venue and we can’t wait to hopefully fill out the stands and get heaps of people on the hill and create a really great atmosphere for everyone to come down.
“Hopefully we put on a great performance,” she said.
