Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica has confirmed young forward Trent Buhagiar will miss the next three to six months after tearing his adductor.

Buhagiar was withdrawn in the warmup ahead of last Wednesday’s Big Blue at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, with scans revealing the extent of the injury that will see him miss the remainder of this campaign.

The Gosford born forward has featured 11 times in the A-League this season, scoring once, and will now undergo surgery and rehab ahead of Sydney FC’s 2021/22 season.

“It’s very tough for him after his ACL injury [last season],” Head Coach Steve Corica said.

“He’s been in the wars, but he has a strong character and a lot of people around him that can help.

“He knows what needs to be done to get back to full fitness.

“Everyone at the club wishes him all the best and to stay strong, and we know he’ll come back stronger than ever.

“Some players go through these periods where you pick up a few injuries,” he continued.

“He can definitely come back from this. He’s got a lot of future in front of him as a footballer and it’s about doing the best he can to recover and working hard to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Sydney FC return to A-League action away against Adelaide United on Saturday night at Coopers Stadium (kick off 7pm AEST). Catch the match live on Fox Sports and streamed on Kayo Sports and the My Football Live app.
