Sydney FC defender Seb Ryall says the current competition for places and talent within the Sky Blues squad is the best he has known.
The centre half cum full back believes Sydney FC has never been blessed with the high quality of players it currently has.
“There’s a lot of competition for spots,” he said. “Training has never been so good.
“I’ve been at Sydney FC for seven years now and the intensity and the quality of training is brilliant and lately we’ve been improving and I think it’s only a matter of time until we really turn it on.
“The squad that we have is really strong, just look at the players we don’t have on the field and it’s a great environment at the moment and everyone is happy.”
The former Young Socceroos skipper was on show during the Sky Blues 4-1 hammering of the Central Coast Mariners on Boxing Day and is delighted with the way Sydney FC are currently performing.
“It was a nice little Christmas present to get the four goals at home, confidence is quite high at the moment, it was a good performance and we are just looking to build on that.
“Our performances have been good of late and we’ve been a little unlucky not to score as many goals as we did in the last match.”
Striker George Blackwood made just his second start in a sky blue jersey against the Mariners and said he wanted to give back to Head Coach Graham Arnold for the faith he had put in him.
“I really want to repay him [Arnold] and work hard for the team,” said the 18 year old.
“I think those [four] goals were a long time coming. Even against Wellington we could have won the game three or four one.
“I think our performances have been really good of late and everything came together. I still think there is some room for improvement and we could have scored some more goals on the weekend but overall I was really happy with the team performance and my own performance.”
Sydney FC take on the Newcastle Jets at ANZ Stadium on January 9 (kick off 5:15pm). Tickets available here.
