Tight table presents opportunity for Sky Blues – Talay

Ufuk Talay speaks to the press prior to the clash with Perth Glory

The next 10 days can really make or break the Sydney FC season.

Currently sitting in 8th place with 14 points they are staring down the barrel of four matches between now and next Saturday with three of them at home and one in New Zealand.

First up is struggling Perth Glory on Wednesday night at Allianz and Head Coach Ufuk Talay believes this is his side’s chance to get their season properly up and running.

“This period is very important for us to maximise our points and pick up as many of them as possible.

“We’ve got games back to back and we need to give ourselves the best chance to be sitting where we believe we should be sitting on the table,” Talay said.

“Looking too far ahead is not always the best way of doing things and I think we need to win the game in front of us first.”

The table is currently quite congested with the Sky Blues sitting outside the top six however two wins from their next two matches can take them to third place, one point behind 2nd.

And the prospect of these games thick and fast excites the players explained Talay.

“It’s a great opportunity the next couple of weeks with a lot of games and no training in between and I’m sure that the players will be happy that we have less training in between,” he joked.

“If we can pick up maximum points from these next four games we can put ourselves in a good position with the table all so close.”

Finally, with the Isuzu UTE A-League transfer window will open shortly Talay explained that we could see some activity at Sky Park when the time comes.

“There’s always stuff happening in the background with that sorta stuff and there’s a few things happening within that space.

“The window does open on the 15th, so we will see what happens when that rolls around,” he concluded.
