The Run-in

As we get to the pointy end of both the Isuzu UTE & Liberty A-League seasons, it’s the perfect time to examine the permutations for both teams.

Ahead of this weekend’s Doubleheader, that includes a Women’s Semi Final and the men’s crucial clash with Perth Glory, we break down the remaining matches in the exciting climax to the season.

Liberty A-League Women’s

The Sydney FC Women lifted the Premiers Plate in their last outing with a 4-0 victory over Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium. Clinching the top spot in the table means they have the security of a second chance in the finals.

Women lift the Premiers Plate

This Sunday Nat Tobin’s team take on second placed Western United in a Semi Final, kicking off at 5:45pm AEST at Allianz Stadium. The winner goes through to the Grand Final on the 30th of April and the loser will take on the winner of the 3rd and 4th play-off between Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory. The two Victorian clubs fight it out to stay alive on Saturday 15th April.

Should Sydney FC lose their Semi Final, they face a Preliminary Final at Allianz Stadium on Saturday 22 April. The winner of that match earns their spot in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final will be held at CommBank Stadium and the winner will be crowned Champions for the 2022/23 Liberty A-League Season.

Each match in finals will play until a winner is found with extra time and penalties a possibility, if both teams cannot be split at the end of the 90 minutes.

Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s

Diego Caballo celebrating his goal against Western United

The Men’s side are chasing finals football and currently sit in 6th position on the table. The top six all earn a spot in finals and a shot at being crowned Champions.

Sydney FC’s remaining matches are against teams below them in the table and the equation is simple, win all three and a Finals spot is secured. Last weekend, Steve Corica’s men took points off high flying Adelaide United and will be looking to use that as a springboard as they aim to cement their spot inside the top six.

Two home matches will be of key importance to Sydney FC when they host Glory this weekend and Newcastle Jets on the final day of the regular season on Saturday 29 April. Sandwiched in-between is a trip to Queensland to take on Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.

It promises to be an exciting end to the season!
