The permutations of the Premiers Plate race

This Saturday, Sydney FC Women have the chance to win a record third consecutive Premiers Plate at Allianz Stadium.

If successful, they will be the first team to lift a trophy at the new venue and will create history for Australian football and surely cement themselves as one of the greatest teams in the history of the Liberty A-League.

There are a few situations that can change the location of the Premiers Plate and depending on the result, with one point separating the teams at the top, it is anyone’s game.

Before Sydney FC walk out on Saturday evening, they will know what they need to hold the plate aloft. Western United kick off at 3pm AEDT with Sydney FC kicking off at 5:05pm AEDT meaning that if Western United lose or draw with the Western Sydney Wanderers, Sydney FC will be crownded Premiers pending an almighty collapse against Newcastle Jets.

Regardless of the Western United result, these are the permutations that befall Ante Juric’s Sky Blues.

Sydney FC Win

If Sydney FC win on Saturday evening the Premiers Plate will be theirs regardless of the Western United result.

Sydney FC Draw

If Newcastle Jets manage to hold Sydney FC to a draw then the location of the plate will be up in the air. This will require a Western United draw or a Western United loss for the Sky Blues to be victorious at Allianz Stadium.

Sydney FC Loss

Should Sydney FC lose to Newcastle Jets, they will require a favour from their cross-city neighbours Western Sydney Wanderers who need to either beat Western United or draw with them. If the draw is the result in Melbourne, then it depends on the weight of the Sydney FC loss at Allianz Stadium.

Should Sydney lose and Western draw, the Sky Blues will need to lose 8-0 to the Jets for the Victorians to win the league in their in-augural season.

The simplest way for Sydney FC to lift the Premiers Plate is to win against the Jets and they will be hoping to do exactly that come Saturday afternoon.
