Sydney FC’s Ryan Teague has taken another step to becoming the next generation of Sky Blue stars after he made his Hyundai A-League debut on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old has been with the club’s Academy since it was founded in 2015, joining as a 13 year old and immediately rising rapidly to play for the Under 16’s, and became the first player from that initial group to make his Hyundai A-League debut.

Teague said all his hard work is beginning to pay off.

“It shows how much I’ve progressed over time with the academy to the first team,” Teague said.

“I was excited to get onto the field, it was a proud moment for me and my family.

“It also shows how much I’ve worked for to be given the opportunity to come onto the field, which was very pleasing.”

The current Joeys’ Captain was promoted to the Hyundai A-League squad in September after a number of successful years in the NPL [NSW National Premier League].

Teague, along with other youngsters Marco Tilio and Harry Van der Saag, came through the club’s Academy, and Teague credits the club’s youth setup for turning him into the footballer he is now.

“It’s definitely played a very instrumental role on the footballer I am today,” he said.

“This is my fifth year at the club and they’ve helped me develop from my younger years.

“It’s a very promising sign for me and other players for what is to come.”

Teague’s debut nerves were settled with the help of experienced Sky Blues players on the pitch on Saturday night, as well as Head Coach Steve Corica.

“[Head Coach Steve Corica] told me to defensively be strong, believe in myself and do what I normally do,” he said.

“Some of the boys were really good when I came on, giving me advice and encouraging me throughout my time on the pitch.”

Sydney FC take on the Central Coast Mariners at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium this Saturday December 14th (kick off 7:30pm AEDT). Get there to watch your Sky Blues with tickets available now.
