Talay – We won’t change our mentality

Ufuk Talay speaks to the press ahead of the first Sydney Derby of the season

This Saturday, the Isuzu UTE A-League gets underway once more and Head Coach Ufuk Talay is very happy with his team’s preseason leading into the 39th Sydney Derby.

The Sky Blues have performed admirably in the AFC Champions League Two, scoring nine goals in their opening two matches, conceding just one and come into this match with a number of players set to experience their first match in the league.

Talay explained to the press about how pleased his is with the off-season recruitment that has bolstered the squad with the likes of Douglas Costa, Patrick Klimala, Leo Sena, and Anas Ouahim.

“I am very happy in the way that we recruited, you know, the players that we brought in and I am just excited for the season to start.”

“I think we’ve got some very good attacking players that can create those opportunities to score goals,” he said.

“The more we score, the better it is for us.”

Although he is keen for goals, the number is not a matter, for him, starting with the Sydney Derby this weekend.

“Look, I’m happy to to win the game one nil, especially playing the way that we want to play. But if we score more than one, I’m always pleased with that too.

“We won’t change our mentality of going out there to try to win the game.

“The focus is on the way that we want to play and if we get the things right with and without the ball, it will give ourselves the best chance to to win the game.”

Saturday will be the end of what is one of the longest off-seasons in world football and Talay is eager to return to A-League action and feels the fans have a mutual feeling.

“I think the fans have missed it.

“It’s been a long time between drinks for games.

Sydney FC’s last Isuzu UTE A-League match came back in mid May

“So I think it’s going to be a great game, a great atmosphere, hopefully an enjoyable game for the fans to watch and entertaining game for the fans to watch.

“And at the end of it, I hope that we come out with the result that we want.”
