Talay Determined To Finish Group Stage With A Win

Sydney FC Head Coach Ufuk Talay says his squad are determined to finish their AFC Champions League 2 group stage campaign on a high note this Thursday night when they meet Filipino team Kaya Iloilo FC in their final match before the knockout stages in February.

The Sky Blues are already qualified for the last 16 following their 4-1 win in Hong Kong last week but Talay is keen to continue the momentum and goalscoring following two successive big wins.

“We go into every game looking to win and to score as many goal as possible and Thursday night’s clash with Kaya will be no different,” he said.

“We scored four goals in each of our last two matches and as long as we score more than the opposition that’s all I’m concerned about.

Talay gives instructions to Captain Rhyan Grant.

“Kaya gave us a tough game in Manila and we expect nothing less again, as they will want to end their campaign with a win.

“We’ll be the same and it’s a good opportunity for a few players who haven’t played a lot recently to get some match minutes into their legs as well.”

Kaya Iloilo FC Head Coach Yu Hoshide says his team are finding their groove and will provide a tough test for the Sky Blue.

He also asked the local Philippines people to come out and support his team.

“The team is in a very good mood as we have been able to win and draw last 2 games in the Champions League and we are leading the domestic league,” he said.

“Even though the schedule is very hard for us, we are very much looking forward to the match against Sydney FC this time in Sydney.

“It is not easy for us to show our football game in Sydney, so we hope you will invite your family and friends to support us.

“We will do our best as representatives of the Philippines.”
