Luke Wilkshire says Sydney FC’s hard-earned Westfield FFA Cup Final win over Adelaide United perfectly captured his reasons for returning to Australia.
The former Caltex Socceroo lifted only his second senior club trophy as Bobô’s extra-time header gave the Sky Blues a 2-1 win at Allianz Stadium.
Having played overseas since the start of his professional career, 36-year-old Wilkshire said it was particularly pleasing to share the success with those closest to him.
“That’s what makes it extra special,” Wilkshire told Fox Sports.
“We’re a family as a team and to have my family here and everyone watching and supporting, it’s a great feeling.
“I’ve only been back for a few months and we’ve got our first piece of silverware.
“It’s a fantastic feeling and nothing more than the players and staff deserve.”
