So far during the pre-season he-s been used by John Kosmina to bolster Sydney FC-s defence, but new recruit, Mitchell Prentice hopes to provide his new side with some strike-power in the coming Hyundai A-League season.
On Saturday night the former Perth Glory player fired home the winner from a free kick in Sydney-s Pre-Season Cup clash with the Queensland Roar, and the stunning strike was no fluke.
“Yeah I-ve worked on it for a few years now, it-s always a good asset to have I suppose, it can make the difference in the end to winning or losing.”
Prentice also came close from long range in the first half of the clash at Campbelltown Sports Stadium; his power and accuracy surprising not only the Roar keeper, but also many of the Sydney faithful still unfamiliar with his game.
“I caught it quite nicely, and unfortunately it went straight to the keeper instead of to the side, that would have been a nice one to get as well.”
As one of four high profile Sydney FC recruits, the 25-year-old knows the weight of expectation will be upon him and his team-mates this season, but he believes they-ll be able to carry the load.
“The squad that the coach has assembled and the club has assembled, there-re some very good players, so without sounding too confident I think we can do very well this season.”
Sydney has been hit hard by injury over the past few weeks, but with one spirited win under its belt, the Wollongong product believes his team will use the remainder of its pre-season campaign to find form ahead of the coming season.
“We-ll probably use the next two games to really get a good formation on the park,” said Prentice. “We want to build on that performance and just nut out a few areas where we could have done things better and continue working on our cohesion.”
FC will continue its quest to claim the Pre-Season Cup, against the Central Coast in Gosford this Sunday.
