On face value it looks like no contest, but Sydney FC is taking nothing for granted in its upcoming clash with the Wellington Phoenix.
On face value it looks like no contest. Sydney FC is cruising along at the top of the Hyundai A-League table, while the Wellington Phoenix remain grounded at the bottom of the ladder without a win against their name.
Despite the clear-cut appearance of the clash, however, the Sky Blues are approaching Sunday-s match in New Zealand with caution, knowing it-s a dangerous game that could undo their unbeaten start to the season.
“We need to be switched on,” said Sydney coach, John Kosmina. “If we go over there thinking the 3 points are already on the board we-ll probably get a rude shock.”
Five games down in the chase for the title, FC is enjoying its best ever start to a Hyundai A-League season and the club is determined to continue its roll.
“It-s very important that we back up what we did against Adelaide last weekend,” said Kosmina. “That was a great win but we can-t afford to take a backward step so this is a crucial game for us.”
The Sydney squad will depart for New Zealand on Friday evening.
Sunday-s game kicks off at 2pm Australian Eastern Standard Time and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 2.
