Sydney FC’s double winning Liberty A-League squad return to Leichhardt Oval this Friday with a bumper five matches over the summer school holidays.
The Sky Blues Champions and Premiers kick off their stint at the famous inner west ground on Friday against Brisbane Roar, in a clash which will see Matildas Cortnee Vine and Tameka Yallop go head-to-head.
Other than the December 29th Allianz Stadium double header against Wellington Phoenix, all eight remaining Sydney FC home games* will take place at the venue, which Head Coach Ante Juric intends to make a fortress.
“It’s a fantastic, intimate ground and when our Members and fans come out in force it gives us a real advantage,” he said.
“It’s where we’ll play the majority of our remaining games this season, so if we want to defend our titles, we’ll be putting in our best performances here.
“We’ve got five school holiday games and another three as we head toward the business end of the season.
“It’s going to be exciting and a nice home venue for us. Our aim is to make it a tough place to visit for opponents, putting in some great performances.”
Sydney FC Women’s fans can purchase a Leichhardt 5 Membership for just $75 for adults, which starts with Friday’s clash with the Roar.
The remaining games take place on January 3rd vs Canberra United, January 17th vs Central Coast Mariners, January 21st vs Newcastle Jets and finishing Saturday 3rd February at home to Perth Glory.
Current Sydney FC Captain Princess Ibini is excited by the return to Leichhardt Oval.
“We have a great record playing at Leichhardt Oval and it always creates a great atmosphere,” she said.
“Our Members and fans have been absolutely on fire so far with their support and it has meant so much to our squad.
“We can’t wait to see them out in force again at Leichhardt Oval as we chase our record of back to back doubles.”
Mayor of Inner West Council Darcy Byrne is excited football and the Sky Blues Women are coming back to Leichhardt Oval once more.
“We’re looking forward to Sydney FC Women’s fans and players experiencing the atmosphere that no other ground in Sydney provides.
“The 8th Wonder of the World continues to grow as a hub for women’s sport and we’ll keep fighting for fair funding to upgrade the ground to make this permanent.”
