It was another quality defensive display that saw the Sky Blues sink the Mariners at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday three goals to one.
While Sydney FC put three past Paul Izzo in goals it was the back four of Rhyan Grant, Jacques Faty, Matthew Jurman and Seb Ryall that made sure of the three points.
The Sky Blues were defensively dominant, making 25 tackles and winning 92% of those while also making 30 interceptions over the course of the 90 minutes.
Protecting Vedran Janjetovic’s goal the back four put themselves on the line to block five shots of the seven the Mariners had on target.
The Sky Blues were aerially dominant too as they won nearly every aerial duel they contested, 88.9%, compared to the Mariners 11.1%, with those headers won leading to numerous counter attacks that twice ended in goal to Matt Simon.
Sydney FC’s impressive defensive record sees them remain the only unbeaten team left in the Hyundai A-League, with the Sky Blues sitting top of the table ahead of tonight’s clash against the Brisbane Roar.
The Sky Blues made 25 tackles over the 90 minutes for a completion rate of 92%.
