Sydney FC are set to face Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium (kick off 7:30pm AEST) for their Westfield FFA Cup round of 16 clash on Wednesday 26 August, in a re-match of their 2014 Westfield FFA Cup quarter final.
The Sky Blues emerged triumphant in their round of 32 clash against Sorrento FC at nib Stadium in what was ultimately a comfortable 2-0 victory, with Shane Smeltz converting from the spot before Foxtel National Youth League product Max Burgess doubled the lead with a well taken effort in the second half.
Sydney FC will now face United, led by new Head Coach Guillermo Amor, as they look to reach the quarter final stage of the Westfield FFA Cup for the second successive year.
The Sky Blues and United contested a heated quarter final in 2014, with the Reds eventually progressing after extra time at Allianz Stadium.
Head Coach Graham Arnold said to be drawn against Hyundai A-League opposition at this early stage will bode well for the Sky Blues development ahead of the new season.
“For our preparation for the season it’s a tough draw and it gives us another chance to test ourselves against a quality side,” he said.
“Obviously we’d be prefer to stay closer to home but it’s another trip away so a chance for some more team bonding and for the boys to get to know each other.”
