Hyundai A-League Champions Sydney FC have welcomed today’s announcement that Allianz Stadium will be re-built into a world-class sporting venue by 2021.

The Sky Blues are the main tenant at the Moore Park ground, which will become a multi-purpose, state of the art football stadium under a major overhaul of Sydney’s sporting infrastructure by the NSW government.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian today unveiled a plan which will see Sydney become a world leader for rectangular stadiums with Allianz at the heart of the redevelopment.

Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow has backed the proposal and is excited to see the Sky Blues play at the new look stadium.

“We welcome the NSW Government’s decision to turn Allianz Stadium into a world class, modern, fit for purpose stadium and appreciate the support of the Premier and Sports Minister,” he said.

“We live in one of the greatest cities in the world and it is vital we have the sporting infrastructure to match.

“As reigning A-League Champions our players and members deserve world class facilities and this announcement will deliver on that.

“I am happy that this decision will benefit our club and football in this country in the long term and I look forward to great times ahead in our new home.”

One of the main features of the newly rebuilt stadium will be a club mode and championship mode, which would increase or reduce the capacity depending on the size of the crowd and the significance of the match.

The Sky Blues are likely to move some home games away from Moore Park during the rebuilding work and Chairman Scott Barlow says they will communicate thoroughly with all stakeholders before making any decision.

“We will engage with our Members and undertake a rigorous consultation process to ensure we achieve the best outcome for the club and our fans during our re-location.

“It is important we move forward with the minimum of disruption for everyone involved with the club.”

Allianz Stadium’s renovation is due to begin in late 2018 and be completed by 2021.
