Sydney FC today unveiled a new Community Strip for the remainder of the 2011/12 season that will see UNICEF, the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and CMRI on the home and away shirts, starting with Saturday night’s clash with Wellington Phoenix at the Sydney Football Stadium.

The unique Sydney FC Community Strip signifies the first time a professional sports team has worn three different Charity Partner logos on its playing strip.
The UNICEF logo will be worn with pride on the front of the shirt with the Children-s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) on the back of the shirt and the Sydney Children-s Hospital Foundation (SCHF) on the sleeve.
Sydney FC has unveiled multi-year Community Partnerships throughout the 2011/12 season with UNICEF (global), CMRI (National) and SCHF (Local) to complete Sydney FC-s Children-s Community Partnership portfolio.
“Sydney FC has undergone a strong Community engagement program this season and we are very proud to have partnered with such strong and respected Community Partners on an on-going basis,” said Sydney FC CEO Dirk Melton. “By wearing their logos with pride on our shirt we are making a strong statement that we are serious about engaging with the Community.”
Sydney FC marque duo Brett Emerton and Nick Carle showed off the new strips today ahead of tomorrow-s clash with Wellington Phoenix and reiterated the strong Community focus the Sky Blues have undertaken.
“We have done a lot of work in the Community this year and as a Club we are making a big effort to get out to as many people as possible and support charities that help others, especially the kids,” said Carle, who is an Ambassador for the Sydney FC partnership with the Sydney Children-s Hospital Foundation.
“I know for me it is a pleasure to be able to put a smile on the faces of young kids. It-s a part of being a professional athlete I really enjoy. Now I can run out to play in a shirt that promotes three great children-s charities.”
Emerton, who is the Sydney FC Ambassador for UNICEF and the CMRI Partnerships, spoke of the global reach of UNICEF, whose logo was also worn on the front of the FC Barcelona shirt in Spain.
“All three organisations, UNICEF, CMRI and the Sydney Children-s Hospital do a lot of great work in the Community but to have the UNICEF logo on the front of a Sydney FC shirt is special,” Emerton said.
“UNICEF is without doubt one of the most recognised children-s organisations in the world and we look forward to not only playing with the logo on the front but working with them to help protect the rights of children.”
The Community Strips worn by the Sydney FC players will be available for auction at the end of the season.
