Allianz Stadium will be a sea of blue – on and off the pitch – tomorrow when Sydney FC takes on rivals Melbourne Victory for the beyondblue Cup in a crucial Hyundai A-League clash.
The two teams will transform “The Big Blue” into a battle for the beyondblue Cup to help raise awareness of depression and anxiety as part of Sydney FC-s Community Partnership with beyondblue.
The teams will enter Allianz Stadium on blue carpet, the corner flags will be blue, ballkids and player mascots will wear beyondblue shirts, as will all volunteers and Allianz Stadium staff.
The Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory coaches will also put rivalries aside and will wear the signature beyondblue wristbands during what will be a huge game in front of a crowd expected to reach 20,000.
Sydney FC is also asking its fans to wear the club-s Sky Blue colours with pride.
“The partnership with beyondblue is a big part of our Community Program and Saturday-s match is a great opportunity for everyone involved with Sydney FC; players, coaches, staff, members and fans, to get behind what is a great cause,” said Sydney FC Captain Terry McFlynn.
“We-ll be wearing our Sky Blue strip and we want the Sydney FC fans to get behind us and get behind beyondblue by showing up in Sky Blue.”
beyondblue aims to increase awareness of depression and anxiety, and related alcohol and drug issues, and to reduce the associated stigma. More than three million Australians experience depression or anxiety, with men traditionally reluctant to ask for help.
To find out about depression and anxiety call the beyondblue info line on 1300 22 4636 or go to www.beyondblue.org.au.
