Sydney FC is set to host one of world football’s most talked-about clubs when newly promoted English Championship side Wrexham AFC arrives at Allianz Stadium on Tuesday 15 July as part of their headline-making Wrexham Down Under Tour.
Under the ownership of Hollywood actors and entrepreneurs Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham has surged into the global spotlight in recent years.
The club’s fairytale rise — capped by a record-breaking third consecutive promotion into the English Football League Championship — has been documented in the Emmy Award-winning series Welcome to Wrexham, which has found a particularly strong following in Australia, now the third-largest audience for the show worldwide.
The match, promoted by TEG Sport, will form the centrepiece of Wrexham’s first-ever Australian tour, which also includes games against Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand.
Sydney FC CEO Mark Aubrey welcomed the announcement, highlighting the unique spectacle the match will bring to the Harbour City.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Wrexham AFC to Sydney,” he said.
“Their incredible story and continued rise has captured the imagination of fans in Australia and around the world, and we are proud to be hosting this global sensation.
“Facing a team with such momentum, driven by the passion of Rob and Ryan, is a fantastic opportunity for our club and an amazing chance for our Members, and the wider football community, to witness Wrexham and their award-winning docu-series first-hand.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Sydney FC and Hollywood glamour mixing in our iconic city at the magnificent Allianz Stadium in July.”
Wrexham’s 2024 Down Under Tour follows two highly successful US tours, which featured marquee matches against Manchester United and Chelsea.
The club’s clash with Sydney FC promises to be another unforgettable fixture in front of what is expected to be a packed crowd at Allianz Stadium.

The match will be an early pre-season test ahead of an expected Round of 32 Australia Cup clash later in July or early August.
