Sydney FC star Adrian Mierzejewski says there are no problems for Sydney FC playing in Asia and backing up on the weekend in Australia.
Sydney FC played in freezing conditions in Shanghai on Wednesday night in the ACL, backing up with a top-class display in a 3-1 Sydney Derby win on Sunday.
Some may have suggested this would affect the players against the Wanderers after they arrived back on Friday.
Not so, said star man Adrian Mierzejewski who brushed aside talk of fatigue after his two-goal starring display at Allianz.
“I read some news maybe we’d be tired, this and that, but we were ready physically to play two maybe three games in a row,” he told Fox Sports.
“We have 20 players ready to play. So we ticked that box and we are waiting for the next game.”
Sydney FC players flew business class back from Shanghai midweek, arriving on Friday into Sydney.
Even coach Graham Arnold gave up his business class seat to let one of the players enjoy greater rest on the journey back.
What’s more, Sydney FC have a very professional sports medicine team lead by Andrew Clark.
No stone is left unturned to ensure their players are at peak level during busy ACL weeks.
“It was a good game, the weather wasn’t perfect. For us, it was good we were in China and there we had four days of rain,” the Pole added.
“I was a little disappointed with our 2-2 draw in Shanghai. I think we deserved three points.
“Now two games one point in the ACL, okay we want to win the Premiership as soon as possible and focus on the Asian Champions League because in this group I believe we have a chance to go through to the next round.”
Mierzejewski now has scored three set pieces this season, including an absolute peach in Sunday’s derby. But he’s seemingly happy to share the role.
“Now it’s Jordy’s [Buijs] turn and I believe he will score a goal. But I have to catch Ross McCormack who has scored four free kicks,” he said.
