Sydney FC Thanks Departing Players

Two of Sydney FC’s longest serving players will leave the club with thanks for their contributions over a number of years as they prepare for fresh challenges.

Midfielder Max Burgess leaves having represented Sydney FC at every level – captaining the club’s National Youth League squad to the 2016 Championship while also playing in the National Premier League and A-League Men’s competition.

He first joined the Sky Blues in 2014 and featured in 97 A-League matches across three separate stints, scoring nine goals, including his memorable Sydney Derby winner in 2023.

The 30-year-old paid tribute to the club and its supporters.

“It’s been an incredible honour to play for my boyhood club and to wear the Sky Blue jersey,” Burgess said.

“From my early days in the youth team to running out in front of our amazing Members and fans at Allianz Stadium, I’ve enjoyed so many great moments and created memories that will last a lifetime.

“I would like to thank the club, my teammates, staff, and particularly the Members and fans for all of their support.

“I’ll always be proud to have worn this shirt and I wish the club every success in the future.”

Fellow Sydney FC Academy graduate Jaiden Kucharski is also moving on to continue his professional development after a decade with the club.

A Sydney FC Member and proud Cove supporter growing up, Kucharski joined the Academy in its inaugural season as a 12-year-old and rose through the ranks to become a fan favourite with his knack for dramatic late goals.

The 22-year old will long be remembered for his iconic stoppage-time strikes – including his memorable Australia Cup equaliser against Central Coast Mariners, his last-gasp heroics against Brisbane Roar and his never to be forgotten 96th minute winner in the Sydney Derby.

“Sydney FC has been such a big part of my life – as a fan, as a player coming through the Academy, and as a professional,” Kucharski said.

“I was a Member and part of The Cove growing up, so to wear the Sky Blue and score important goals for this club was a dream come true.

“I’ve made lifelong friends and incredible memories and I’ll always look back on my time here with a great deal of fondness.

“I want to thank everyone at the club and all of the amazing fans, and I wish Sydney FC all the best for the future.”

January signing Jaushua Sotirio also leaves the Sky Blues after joining the squad in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

The trio follow Polish striker Patryk Klimala and legendary goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne, who had earlier confirmed their departures from the Sky Blues.

The Sky Blues remain in talks regarding new deals with the club’s other out of contract players and will release details once confirmed.
