Sydney FC has further strengthened its defensive stocks with the signing of defender Jamie Coyne for the 2011/12 and 2012/13 Hyundai A-League seasons.

The addition of the 100-plus A-League capped Coyne follows the acquisition of Socceroos central defender Michael Beauchamp by the Sky Blues two weeks ago.
Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka identified Coyne as an experienced, versatile and professional defender who could bolster his defensive options for next season and after Coyne impressed at training and in a friendly match last week he was signed by the two-time A-League Champions.
“I am really happy to have signed for Sydney FC. I have a lot to offer,” Coyne said.
“I have played against Sydney FC many times and all I wanted to do was beat them and they were games where you needed no motivation to rip in. Now I will be on the other side and I will be giving it my all.
“I am naturally competitive and I will bring that to Sydney FC. I will play hard and give everything I-ve got. It is an exciting time for me.”
Lavicka said he was extremely pleased to have finalised the signing of Coyne, who will join his new team mates in July.
“Jamie is a very experienced player. He is versatile and can play in many positions which will give us options across the pitch. He has impressed me. He is a good signing for us,” Lavicka said.
“He is much taller and bigger than people realise. I saw in the way he played in our friendly last week that he will be a good addition to the team.
“His positional play, ability in the air and his talking during the game was excellent. He did everything we asked of him and showed good character which is important to us here.”
Coyne comes to Sydney FC after a career that includes time with English Premier League club West Ham United as a junior, two National Soccer League (NSL) Championships with Perth Glory (2003 and 2004) before playing 119 games for the Glory between 2005 and 2011 in the A-League.
