Sydney FC has signed experienced defender Tiago Calvano until the end of the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season as an injury replacement for Pascal Bosschaart.
The 31-year-old was released from his contract by the Newcastle Jets and will start training with the Sky Blues this morning ahead of Saturday afternoon-s clash with Wellington Phoenix at Allianz Stadium.
Calvano joins Sydney FC to bolster its defensive stocks after Bosschaart joined Adam Griffiths and Nathan Sherlock on the injured list as the Sky Blues enter a crucial period of the season.
“It-s good to have Tiago on board,” said Sydney FC coach Frank Farina. “We have had a few injuries at the back and we were getting a little thin so having him here gives us more options and depth in defence.”
Calvano, who played 28 games for the Newcastle Jets since coming to Australia, said he was looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity presented to him.
“I-m very happy to be here at Sydney FC,” Tiago said. “I look forward to start playing and helping my new club and team mates.
“I think this is a great opportunity for my career. Sydney FC is a good club and Sydney is a beautiful city. I hope I can prove to the club what I can do.”
