Sydney FC Sign Up Three Young Academy Stars

Sydney FC has completed the signings of three of its young Academy stars on Isuzu-UTE A-League contracts.

19-year old Will Kennedy has signed his first professional contract until the end of next season, and moves onto the next stage of his career with the club, having joined the Sky Blues as a 12-year old.

Kennedy has transitioned into a full back with the A-League squad having played as a defensive midfielder in the ‘Roy Keane mould’ with the Academy.

The youngster from Balmoral is adept in either position and playing on either the left or right flanks and has already represented the Sky Blues in the AFC Champions League 2 this season.”

Will Kennedy signs his first professional contract with Sydney FC.

“It was an amazing feeling [to sign the contract],” he said.

“The journey through the Academy since aged 12 was tough, and being involved with the first team for four months without a contract felt like a trial every day.

“When I was finally told I’d signed, it was a massive relief and incredibly exciting.

“I’m aggressive, clean technically, and quick at breaking down play,” he continued.

“My background as a holding midfielder influences my style as a fullback. I aim to win the ball quickly, transition forward, and stay consistent.”

16-year old Nickolas Alfaro signs a three-year deal after impressing the Sky Blues coaching staff with his ability on the ball and attacking mindset.

Nickolas Alfaro made his debut for Sydney FC in the Australia Cup Round of 32.

Having made his Sydney FC debut in the Australia Cup against Oakleigh Cannons last season, Alfaro made a positive impression in the AFC Champions League 2 clash with Kaya FC last month.

“It’s a dream come true,” he said.

“Having been a fan since I was young, it’s amazing to wear the badge and represent the club professionally.

“I’m a central midfielder who likes to get on the ball, turn forward, and create chances. I also work hard defensively.

“Fans can expect excitement, creativity, and consistency. I’ll give my all to entertain and contribute to the team.”

Alfaro signs his Sydney FC A-League contract.

Defender Tyler Williams was a 17-year old who made his Sydney FC debut last year at the heart of the defence in the AFC Champions League 2 in December and also signs on a three year deal.

Impressed by his potential through the Academy, Williams revealed the club made their move following his debut at Jubilee Stadium.

“It’s a special moment for me and my family and I’m honoured to play for the best club in Australia,” he said.

“It happened quickly. I was training and made my debut in the AFC Champions League 2.

“Shortly after, I was offered a contract, which was an incredible feeling.

“I’m a composed, ball-playing, centre-back who excels at carrying the ball forward, defending one-on-one, and distributing effectively.

17 year old Tyler Williams has been training with the Sydney FC A-League Men’s squad most of the season.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Head Coach Ufuk Talay is pleased to see more young Academy players making the step up into the A-League Men’s squad.

“We’re really excited about all the talent coming through the Academy,” he said.

“We’ve got another three players now coming through the system.

“They all have a lot of potential and could become great players for this club in the future.

“We’ll be working closely with them to help them succeed and reach the heights that they want to get to which is a big part of our long term strategy.”

Sydney FC’s Technical Director – Youth, Kelly Cross is delighted to see another crop of Sky Blues graduate from the Sydney FC Academy.

“It’s always a great feeling when we see players we’ve spent years developing achieve what they’ve been striving for,” he said.

“All of these players were identified at the age of 12 and have spent a significant amount of time with us.

“Seeing them earn this honour is a wonderful recognition of their hard work and the efforts of our coaches.

“It also highlights the consistency of our methodology over the years,” he continued.

“What’s particularly refreshing and encouraging is having a Head Coach who aligns with this philosophy, recognizes the quality of these younger players, and prioritizes our talent over thousands of others available.”

Kennedy’s contract has kicked in immediately while Alfaro and Williams’ contracts begin from July 1st.

However all three players are already regulars within the A-League Men’s training sessions at Sky Park.
