Sydney FC have secured the services of former Serbian international and Dynamo Kyiv star Milos Ninkovic on a two year deal, the club announced today.
Ninkovic will boost the Sky Blues midfield stocks, with the 30 year old adept as both an attacking and central midfielder.
Born in Belgrade, Ninkovic progressed through the FK Cukaricki Academy before being signed in 2004, at the age of 19, for Dynamo Kyiv. He made 109 appearances for Kyiv over a nine year spell before enjoying season long deals at Red Star Belgrade and most recently Evian in the French Ligue 1.
Ninkovic represented Serbia at international level from 2009 until 2012 and was a member of the starting XI squad that faced both Germany and Australia at the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
Head Coach Graham Arnold said he was delighted at the capture of Ninkovic and hopes the Serbian will boost an already formidable Sky Blues central midfield.
“I’m so excited that Milos is coming to Sydney FC and to the A-League,” he said.
“He’s got a wonderful pedigree, last year he played in the top league in France and the 2010 World Cup and he shows the type of quality we want at Sydney FC.
“I’m excited after talking with him, he’s a great guy, and I’m looking forward to working with him. I’m sure he’ll excite all the Sydney FC Members and fans.
“I’m confident that he will be a standout in the A-League.”
Ninkovic said he was excited by the move to Australia and cannot wait to pull on a Sky Blue jersey.
“I can’t wait to play in the A-League,” he said.
“Sydney FC is a renowned club and one of the biggest in the league. I’m eager to represent the Sky Blues and show Australia what I can do.
“I’m excited to be able to play in the Asian Champions League and I hope I can bring success to Sydney FC. I want to win silverware.”
Ninkovic fills up the Sky Blues third visa spot inside the salary cap and will link up with his teammates in August following his visa approval.
