Sydney FC shine on debut during the opening round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Club Championship defeating Iranian Champions Bam Khatoon FC 3-0 with a Fiona Worts double and Aideen Keane strike.

03’ – FIONA WORTS MAKES HISTORY – Sydney FC set the tone early with a right wing corner headed home on the goal line by forward Fiona Worts, marking the club’s first ever goal in Asia.

“To get a good first up win against Bam Khantoon, a team completely filled with Iranian internationals, who recently played against Australia was very satisfying.

“We now need to recover and rest up, preparing for our next game. We know it’s going to be a difficult tournament but we will do our best to make our Sydney FC fans back home proud.”

Sky Blues celebrate the third goal

Match Report:   Sydney FC have begun their AFC Women’s Club Championship with an incredible 3-0 opening win over Iranian Champions Bam Khatoon FC at Jar Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In the third minute a floating corner onto the goal-line gave the perfect opportunity for Sydney FC’s star forward Fiona Worts to dominate and score.

The Sky Blues gritty defence was nothing short of admirable after stopping a few close calls from their opposition. Goalkeeper Jada Whyman shined holding a strike from the opposition.

Before half-time dynamic forward Aideen Keane took advantage of a ball from Princess Ibini, slotting a strong kick underneath the advancing keeper, doubling Sydney FC’s score.

Worts proved to be unstoppable for Bam Khatoon FC receiving a brilliant cross from Shea Connors to slot the ball into the corner making the score 3-0 in the 58th minute. 

Tori Tumeth helped keep the Iranians out

The Sydney FC defence produced a master clash shutting out Bam Khatoon FC and at full-time, the Sky Blues had made history with an impressive 3-0 win over Bam Khatoon FC.
