Sydney FC has secured the signing of Joeys Asian Cup star forward Mitch Glasson on a three-year contract.
The prolific striker was instrumental in securing Australia’s passage to the competition scoring five goals in qualifying while leading the line alongside Isuzu-UTE A-League Men’s star Nestory Irankunda.
Glasson scored one and made two assists during last month’s tournament in Thailand and captained the Joeys in February’s Antalya Youth Cup in Turkey.
The Liverpool-born forward has been a regular Sydney FC’s NPL squad this season and is determined to make his mark.
“It’s a very proud moment to be signing for Sydney FC and I want to have an impact in the A-League this season,” he said.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me and I am excited to make the most of it.
“I want to continue to learn but I’m also keen to hit the ground running and show I belong at this level.”
Glasson graduated through the Sydney FC Academy scoring in last season’s Grand Final win over Sydney United 58 FC and becomes the 19th member of Steve Corica’s squad.
Head Coach Steve Corica is excited by what Glasson will bring to the squad.
“Mitch is a very talented striker, he’s strong, a clever player who makes good runs, he’s fast and can score goals.
“He’s just back from a successful personal performance in the Asian Cup where he scored one and assisted two.
“We are expecting him to make the step up.”
Glasson won the Sydney FC Rising Star Award at this year’s Sky Blue Ball.
The 17-year old has a sporting pedigree with his father Steve Glasson being a former World Champion in Lawn Bowls and representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games.
