Sydney FC Ready For Historic ACL Two Quarter Final

Sydney FC is set to make club history as they prepare for their first-ever AFC Champions League Two quarter-final appearance, taking on Korean powerhouses Jeonbuk Motors over two thrilling legs in March.

The Sky Blues will travel to South Korea for the first leg on Thursday, 6th March, before returning home to the Sydney Football Stadium for the all-important second leg decider on Thursday, 13th March – 7pm.

This decisive home fixture presents a golden opportunity for the club and its passionate supporters to drive Sydney FC into the semi-finals and cement their place among Asia’s elite.

Sydney FC CEO Mark Aubrey stressed the significance of the moment and called on Members and fans to pack Allianz Stadium for the second leg.

“This is an incredible milestone in our 20-year history, and it highlights our ambition to be a dominant force in Asian football.

“The AFC Champions League Two is a prestigious competition that elevates our club’s reputation not just in Australia but across the continent.

“To be competing at this stage is a testament to the hard work of our players, coaches, and staff, and we need every Sky Blue supporter behind us to help get us over the line.”

Head Coach Ufuk Talay echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of this campaign to the squad and Australian football as a whole.

“This is what we strive for—playing in high-stakes matches against some of the best teams in Asia.

“Jeonbuk are a top-class opponent with a rich history in Asian football, and we are relishing the challenge.

“These moments define clubs, and we have the chance to make history. The second leg at the SFS will be massive, and having our Members and fans in full voice could make all the difference in pushing us into the semi-finals.”

Captain and Sydney FC legend Rhyan Grant spoke of the significance of this clash for the players and urged fans to create an unforgettable atmosphere at the Sydney Football Stadium.

“To be part of the first Sydney FC side to reach this stage of the AFC Champions League Two is a massive honour, but we are far from finished.

“We’ve got an incredible opportunity to take another step towards the final, and playing the second leg at home gives us a real edge especially if the SFS is rocking.

Captain Rhyan Grant believes the Sky Blues need to create a similar atmosphere to the European Champions League nights.

“You can see what a difference a good crowd can make in those special European nights at Anfield and other UEFA Champions League grounds.

“That’s what we need here. If our Members and fans pack the stadium and bring that same passion and noise, it could make all the difference.

“Let’s turn it into a fortress and make this a night to remember!”

Should Sydney FC triumph over Jeonbuk across the two legs, they will progress to the semi-finals—the Eastern section final—bringing them just one step away from a massive AFC Champions League Two Grand Final, which will be played at the Sydney Football Stadium in May, should Sydney qualify.
