Sydney FC Member Pens Sky Blues W-League Novel

Texi & Aurelia With Girls And Book

A nine-year Sydney FC Member has written a new book which is a fictional work about a young girl who follows her football dreams and ends up playing for Sydney FC and the Matildas.

The book, titled Anna Black – This Girl Can Play, begins with our hero playing football in the suburbs of Sydney before carving out a professional career and heading to the 2023 World Cup with Australia.

It’s written by Sky Blues Member Pete ‘Texi’ Smith who admits much of the inspiration for the book came from his daughter who is also a fanatic of our Westfield W-League squad.

“My daughter Aurelia, who’s 14, is a player at NPL level and there was a lack of fiction in general about the women’s game,” he said.

“With the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023, I thought it was about time there was.

“The reader should be very excited for 2023 once they read the book.”

Jada With Texi & Aurelia

Smith is a regular at Sky Blues games, and hails originally from the football hotbed of North East England.   .

“I’ve been a member since 2012 and have been taking the kids to the SFS and now Jubilee Stadium and Leichhardt Oval for a long time now.

“Sydney FC has been the scene of many birthday parties and end of season celebrations over the years.

“I now travel to the local away games following the men’s and women’s teams when possible,” he said.

“Sunday’s W-League Grand Final is massive and we can’t wait for it to go ahead.  Having met the girls recently we’ve got every faith in them and are looking forward to watching them lift that trophy.”

The is the fourth football novel from Texi, with more to come.
