Sydney FC Held By Resilient Roar

Sydney FC have been held at home by a resilient Brisbane Roar side but continue a four game unbeaten run and move within five points of the top of the Isuzu Ute A-League ladder.

Sydney FC 1 (Caceres 34’) drew w. Brisbane Roar 1 (Mileusnic 41’)

Moments That Mattered:

NEVILLE ALMOST OWN GOAL – 17’ – A delightful ball from Ninkovic to Grant behind the full back allows the Socceroos star to cross into the danger area and Neville almost puts the ball into his own net, but Freke saves.

CACERES GOAL – 34’ – Kamsoba cleverly beats two players in his own half and skips a third challenge before sprinting into the opposition half.  He draws three defenders and plays a perfect ball into the path of Caceres who delivers an exquisite one touch finish beyond the keeper.

REDMAYNE SAVE – 40’ – A ball in behind finds Mileusnic in the left hand channel and he shoots across goal but Redmayne stays big and gets a hand to it to keep it out.

MILEUSNIC GOAL – 41’ – A cross from the left is headed up in the air and Mileusnic hits it first time from the edge of the box and it bobbles off Redmayne’s hand into the top of the net.

KAMSOBA CHANCE – 67’ – Kamsoba receives the ball and uses his pace to go past a Brisbane defender before unleashing a shot which Freke gets down quickly to save.

VAN DER SAAG & BURGESS CHANCES – 79’ – Van der Saag is slipped the ball in the left hand channel, takes a touch and shoots but it’s saved.  The ball then falls to Burgess who shoots but it’s deflected wide.

WOOD CHANCE – 82’ – A breakaway and Bobô plays in Wood who hits a first time shot with his left foot just wide of the post.

VAN DER SAAG OFF THE POST – 84’ – Burgess crosses from the left to Bobô who holds it and lays it off the Van der Saag who puts his shot just off the left hand upright.

REDMAYNE SAVES – 87’ – A downward header in the six yard box from a corner makes it tricky for Redmayne but he’s equal to it and can parry away.

REDMAYNE STYLISH SAVE – 89’ – Ivanovic cuts inside and tries to curl a trademark right foot shot past the keeper but Redmayne dives full length to push the ball away.

Anthony Caceres finishes off Elvis Kamsoba’s brilliant run and pass.

What They Said: Steve Corica: “I’m a little bit disappointed we didn’t get all three points tonight.

“I think first half especially we dominated, we got the goal and gave away a sloppy one towards the end of the half.

“It probably evened up in the second half but we still had the better of the chances.

“We had three one on ones with the keeper, Harry had two and Woody had one as well to seal the game but we couldn’t take them.

“Elvis Kamsoba has taken his chances when he’s had them.  Obviously he created the goal tonight. He’s very lively and very sharp, he turns very quickly and is improving all the time and full of confidence.”

Report:

Sydney FC have moved a point closer to the top of the Isuzu Ute A-League ladder after a 1-all draw with Brisbane Roar at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

The Sky Blues dominated most of the game and went into the lead when Elvis Kamsoba ran from his own half before setting up Anthony Caceres for a first time finish.

Brisbane came back just before the break when Sydney FC didn’t clear a cross and Mileusnic hit a first time cross in from the edge of the box.

Steve Corica made a number of second half substitutions with one eye on Tuesday’s FFA Cup semi-final and it almost paid dividends with the team fashioning five very good chances to win the game.

Redmayne was on hand in the final minutes to make two crucial saves to preserve the point.
