Griffiths joined the Sky Blues in December 2012 and scored three goals in eight matches for the club towards the back end of the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season.
“Joel has asked for a release from the final year of his contract and we have decided to allow him to pursue other opportunities,” said Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata. “We wish him all the best with his football future.”
Despite the 33-year-old-s departure, Sydney FC is well served with attacking options with Alessandro Del Piero, Corey Gameiro, Yairo Yau, Joel Chianese, Blake Powell and Mitch Mallia spearheading the Sky Blues attack.
