Sydney FC has released four players and confirmed the earlier signing of three exciting youngsters from its National Youth League squad as part of the revitalisation of the playing squad for the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season.
Juho Makela, Jamie Coyne, Bruno Cazarine and Karol Kisel have all been released while Sydney-born youngsters Mitch Mallia, Daniel Petkovski and Hagi Gligor have been added to the Player Roster for the 2012/13 season.
Makela, Cazarine and Kisel will all return to their home country while Coyne agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.
“Sydney FC will not be extending the contracts of Juho Makela, Jamie Coyne and Bruno Cazarine and Karol Kisel had already decided to return to Europe,” said Sydney FC Football Director Gary Cole. “We would like to thank them for the contribution they made to Sydney FC and wish them the best of luck in their future football careers.”
A decision on the other out-of-contract players Michael Beauchamp, Shannon Cole and Scott Jamieson will be made following the appointment of a new coach to guide the Sky Blues in 2012/13.
However, the recruitment process has not stalled and Sydney FC has identified a wide range of playing options and initial discussions have taken place but no new contracts will be offered until the incoming coach is in place.
Sydney FC already has 17 players contracted for the 2012/13 season with 14 players from the 2011/12 squad joined by Mallia (20), Petkovski (18) and Gligor (17), who were standouts in the National Youth League side and have been handed professional contracts.
“It is critical to the revitalisation of the squad that we select and contract a coach before we finalise the playing squad,” Cole said. “Earlier in the season Sydney FC identified and contracted three of the current crop of youngsters who have come through the system and they will step up into the A-League squad next season.
“The remaining spots will not be filled until we have selected a coach. That includes current players who are out of contract and players we have identified and started discussions with from within Australia and overseas.”
Contracted Sydney FC players are: Terry Antonis, Mark Bridge, Pascal Bosschaart, Nick Carle, Joel Chianese, Brett Emerton, Hagi Gligor, Rhyan Grant, Mitch Mallia, Terry McFlynn, Hirofumi Moriyasu, Ivan Necevski, Daniel Petkovski, Dimi Petratos, Liam Reddy, Sebastian Ryall and Nathan Sherlock.
