Sydney FC Defeat Jets To Lift Premiers Plate

Sydney FC have defeated Newcastle Jets 4-0 thanks to a brace a piece from Mackenzie Hawkesby and Cortnee Vine to be crowned Liberty A-League Premiers for season 2022-23.

It’s a third consecutive Premiership for the Sky Blue women, a feat never before achieved in A-Leagues history.

HAWKESBY GOAL – 16’ – Ibini takes on the right back and cuts the ball back to Hawkesby who delicately lifts the ball over the goalkeeper.

LOWE CHANCE – 35’ – Lowe finds herself one on one with the keeper but Worth makes a fine save.

IBINI CHANCE – 48’ – Ibini is set free and rounds the keeper but her shot is cleared off the line by a Jets defender.

IBINI OFF THE BAR – 62’ – Hawkesby’s corner is headed back across goal by Haley to Ibini who loops another header onto the bar.

HALEY CHANCE SAVED – 64’ – Haley is one on one with Worth but the keeper stands tall and blocks the shot and follow up header.

HALEY PUTS IT WIDE – 67’ – Dos Santos’ shot is saved and Haley’s rebound goes wide.

HAWKESBY GOAL – 78’ – Hawkesby takes a long range shot which the keeper fails to hold and allows the ball to slip beyond her.

VINE GOAL – 90’+1’ – Vine is played through by Sarah Hunter and makes no mistake when one on one with the keeper.

VINE GOAL – 90’+5’ – Haley slots the ball through for Vine this time and the forward doesn’t miss.

Second goal is celebrated by the Sydney FC players.

“I don’t think we get the credit for it, three premierships equals the best defence and attack and that’s hard.

“Only five or six losses in those years – that’s unheard of – and it’s tough because everyone wants to beat us.”

Match Report: Sydney FC have secured the Liberty A-League Premiership for the third season in a row thanks to a 4-0 win over Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium.

The Sky Blues went ahead early in the first half thanks to good work from Ibini and a neat finish from Hawkesby.

They continued to put pressure on the Jets goal but took until the 78th minute to add a second when Hawkesby’s long range effort was fumbled into the goal by Worth.

Vine completed the rout with two goals in injury time when put through one on one with the keeper.
