Sydney FC have signed youngster Brandon O’Neill on a two year deal as he becomes Head Coach Graham Arnold’s second new signing for next season.
O’Neill will strengthen the Sky Blues holding midfield area and arrives having most recently played for Perth Glory. The 21 year old made 16 appearances for the Glory and played his last match against the Sky Blues in a 3-1 defeat at nib Stadium in February.
The Perth born midfielder linked up with his new team mates on Monday and will remain a Sky Blue for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 Hyundai A-League seasons.
Head Coach Graham Arnold welcomed O’Neill to the squad and said he looks forward to developing the young midfielder.
“Brandon is a great young prospect,” Arnold said.
“I’m looking forward to working with him and developing him as a footballer during his time with Sydney FC.
“Brandon will provide great competition for places in our squad and will be a welcome addition to our midfield stocks.”
O’Neill said he was looking forward to prospering at the Sky Blues as he said the lure of working under Head Coach Graham Arnold and his team was a determining factor in his signature.
“I’m humbled and grateful for the opportunity Graham Arnold and Sydney FC have given me,” O’Neill said.
“Graham Arnold is a proven first class coach and always gets the best out of his players as well as his belief in youth. I jumped at the chance to work with someone of his coaching ability.
“To progress in my own career I believe Sydney FC is the club for me,” he continued.
“The club have been so welcoming to myself. From Graham to Terry McFlynn, everyone has been so professional and I couldn’t have asked for more. They really make you feel a part of the Sydney FC family so quickly and I cannot wait to repay this faith.
“I hope under the guidance of Graham Arnold, Andrew Clark and Steve Corica I can become a better player and person and make every training session and match count. I hope not only for me but the team too that we achieve as much success as possible.”
O’Neill will be available when Sydney FC are next in action against English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 30 May 2015 (kick off 8pm). Follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for live match coverage or catch the game on Channel Seven from 7pm.
