Sydney FC have finalised their Westfield W-League squad with the double signing of goalkeeper Trudy Burke and 17-year old star for the future Shadeene Evans on a scholarship contract.

Burke joins the Sky Blues with a large amount of experience having represented Melbourne City, Canberra United and Western Sydney Wanderers during the last five years of the Westfield W-League.

Striker Evans is considered a big prospect having received financial support from John Moriarty Football to travel from her Northern Territory home town to part of an elite football program at Westfield Sports High, on the recommendation of Matildas Head Coach Alen Stajcic.

Head Coach Ante Juric believe his squad is now ready to mount a serious title tilt.

“I’m delighted to have added the final touches to our squad and now look forward to putting in a big challenge towards the Westfield W-League title,” he said.

“We have had a good start and and want to continue that now we have everyone back from their international duties, starting with the double header against Victory at Jubilee Stadium next week.

“Trudy and Shay are fantastic additions, they have really strengthened us and have fitted in well.”

Burke who has been training and playing with Sydney FC for the last few weeks said she was looking forward to getting the season back.

“We’ve got a fantastic group of players and I’m really looking forward to us playing games again.

“After the Matildas matches and our bye weekend we are all back in camp and ready to ensure we complete the season as strongly as possible.”

Evans, who will follow the likes of Kyah Simon and Jada Whyman as the latest representative of the indigenous community in the Westfield W-League, says she is excited to be joining the Sky Blues.

“I am thrilled to be coming to Sydney FC and to be playing alongside some of Australia’s best footballers.

“It will be a fantastic learning experience for me and I am sure I will come out of it a hugely improved player.

“It’s an honour to be given the chance to compete alongside this squad and to have the chance to play in the W-League.”

Trudy and Shadeene will be joining the W-League squad at the Sydney FC Members’ Day at Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah today and will both be in contention to line-up against Melbourne Victory in the double header at the same stadium next week.
