Sydney FC forward Jodi Ülkekul has announced she’ll retire from professional football, after this weekend’s clash with Central Coast Mariners.
It brings the curtain down on a distinguished career spanning multiple countries and competitions.
The American attacker joined the Sky Blues ahead of the 2025/26 Ninja A-League Women’s season and quickly became a valued member of the squad, contributing her experience, leadership and versatility to the club’s campaign.
Ülkekul arrived in Sydney with an impressive résumé, having played across the United States, Spain and Italy, as well as featuring in the NWSL with OL Reign and most recently Spokane Zephyr FC in the USL Super League.

A standout collegiate career at Gonzaga University, where she captained the Bulldogs and made 74 appearances, laid the foundation for a professional journey which also included spells with Roma CF and CD Castellón.
Reflecting on her decision, Ülkekul said she leaves the game with immense pride and gratitude.
“I am extremely grateful and proud to announce my retirement from playing professional football, taking with me so many invaluable and lifelong relationships and experiences that I’ve been so blessed to have along the way,” she said.
“To be honest, I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been my dream and it’s been my story, so it just feels completely right being able to step away at this time.
“I’m really at peace with knowing that it is the right decision and to be able to leave on my own terms is such a blessing.”
Ülkekul also paid tribute to the Sky Blue Members and the unique support she experienced during her time in Sydney.

“The Sydney FC community is just such a unique environment. Even when results didn’t go how we wanted, they rallied around us and that means a lot.
“It’s been really humbling and it gives you a larger perspective that it’s about more than just performances — it has a much bigger impact.”
Sydney FC Head Coach James Slaveski praised Ülkekul’s professionalism and influence within the squad.
“Jodi has been a fantastic addition to our club, both on and off the pitch,” he said.
“She brought a wealth of experience from playing across the world and her leadership qualities were evident from day one.
“She’s a player who always put the team first, worked tirelessly and set a great example for the younger players. We wish her nothing but success in the next chapter of her journey.”
Ülkekul’s final game of her career will come for Sydney FC away to Central Coast Mariners this Saturday in the final game of the A-League Women’s regular season.
Sydney FC thanks Jodi for her contribution to the club and wishes her every success in her future endeavours.
