Sydney FC has today announced a significant evolution in its governance structure with the appointment of Dr. Jan Voss as the Club’s new Chairman.
The move is part of a broader strategic Board restructure aimed at propelling Sydney FC’s international profile and forging high-impact global partnerships.
Dr. Voss is the President of Ferrari Australasia and an accomplished international executive. Fluent in five languages—English, German, Italian, French, and Dutch—Dr. Voss brings a global perspective and deep experience in brand, performance, and strategic growth.
The Board also welcomes inaugural Chairman Walter Bugno, a seasoned global business and sports leader, alongside tech entrepreneur Sebastian Gray, whose expertise will further strengthen the Club’s focus on innovation, digital engagement, and sustainable investment.

These appointments signal a bold new chapter for Sydney FC—Australia’s most decorated football club—which has led the domestic game since inception.
From signing marquee international players and pioneering the first A-League appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup, to launching one of the country’s first professional football academies, Sydney FC has a proven track record of innovation and leadership.

“This is a pivotal moment for Sydney FC,” said Dr. Jan Voss. “I am honoured to be appointed Chairman and to work alongside a Board that is deeply passionate about football and our club’s future.”
Dr. Voss’ appointment, together with European-based Bugno and the addition of Gray, signals Sydney FC’s intent to expand its reach beyond Australia and embrace the global nature of modern football.

This vision is complemented by the ongoing contribution of Technical Director Han Berger, also based in Europe, and the Sky Blues continued focus on winning trophies, producing high-calibre young players and ensuring long-term sustainability.
“The globalisation of football presents both opportunities and imperatives,” added Dr. Voss.
“After 20 years of success and stability, we are evolving.
“With a strong and stable ownership base and a renewed focus on innovation, commercial growth, and elite performance, Sydney FC is more ready than ever to embrace the challenges of the modern football landscape.”

As part of the transition, Scott Barlow has stepped away from the Board after two decades of service, including a highly successful 13-year tenure as Chairman.
“I wish to thank Scott for his extraordinary leadership and commitment over the past two decades,” said Voss.
“His 13 years as Chairman have laid the foundations for the Club’s next era of growth and international ambition.”
The appointments of Dr. Jan Voss, Walter Bugno, and Sebastian Gray are effective immediately.
