Sydney FC have appointed Cameron Honey to the newly created role of Chief Commercial Officer, the club announced today.

Honey joins from Football Federation Australia where in his role of General Manager – Commercial Development he was responsible for high profile sponsorship deals including McDonalds, ALDI, Rebel and bet365.

“We are delighted to appoint someone with Cameron’s skills and experience to head up the commercial arm of our business,” said Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend.

“Cameron has proven success in developing and maintaining commercial partnerships and his knowledge and contacts will be key as we continue to grow our business.”

“This is an exciting time for Sydney FC as we dominate the Hyundai A-League once again and look to take advantage of the vast array of business opportunities that another two years competing in Asia’s elite football competition will bring.”

Prior to Cameron’s time at FFA, he spent three years as a Head of Business Development at law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and also worked pro-bono with the Sydney Sixers in engaging the Sydney business community.

“I am excited to be taking on this new challenge,” he said.

“Sydney FC’s on-field success opens up huge potential for growth and new business partnerships from a commercial perspective.  I look forward to working with Danny and the team to grow the sponsorship portfolio of Sydney FC to continue our investment in football for the benefit of our supporters, participants and other stakeholders.

“Our AFC Champions League campaign will also bring further opportunity for us to grow our revenue streams and I look forward to engaging with new sponsors and working with them to generate successful outcomes for both parties.”

Honey is a chartered accountant and is also trained as a lawyer.
