When Sydney FC defeated the Macarthur Bulls at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, it signified a statement of intent from Steve Corica’s side.
The win was made the sweeter with two debuts for Sydney FC in Corey Hollman and Adrian Segecic. In fact, there were over eight players on the field that night who have come through the Sydney FC academy.
Sydney FC Technical Director Youth, Kelly Cross, hailed the recent debutants and paid tribute to their hard work in making their debuts.
“I got word the day before that they could feature in the game and I was delighted for them,” Cross said.
“We have a great relationship with Steve Corica and his staff. We have a number of players that train with the first team and get exposed to that training environment. The coaching staff get to take a closer look at them and see if they are able to do a job for the team.”
Sydney FC featured a number of academy graduates in their side against the Bulls and Cross believes it’s a testament to their hard work.
“Despite their young age, both Adrian and Corey have been on the radar for a while and have been impressing in training.”
“Both were 12 years old when they started at the Sydney FC academy, and I sent them a congratulations message after the game.”
“I think what helps both the two young men is that they both have very supportive families who are always asking us what they can do to best support their child off the field to help their careers.”
