Sydney aims to conquer Queensland

If you look at the history of Hyundai A-League clashes between Sydney FC and the Queensland Roar the Sky Blues have the edge over their Northern rivals, having lost only twice in the eleven meetings between the teams, and maintaining an undefeated record over five matches at home.

Statistics rarely tell the whole story however, and John Kosmina-s and his men are expecting a tough battle tonight at the Sydney Football Stadium.

“The thing that-s frightening about Queensland is pace,” said Kosmina. “They-re a difficult side to play against.”

“Generally they-re a lot better away from home than they are at home so they are going to be a tough prospect tomorrow, “ added forward, Alex Brosque. “We-ve got to be back on our game and bounce back from the disappointing result we copped last week.”

Up until last weekend Sydney was enjoying an undefeated start to the Hyundai A-League season, but a stumble against lowly ranked Wellington stung the joint competition leaders, and they-re determined to make amends at home.

“It-s not last weekend-s result, it-s the way we bounce back this weekend and mentally recover and make sure we get the result this weekend that-s going to make the difference,” said central midfielder, Stuart Musialik.

During the week the 23-year-old was selected in the provisional Socceroos squad for Australia-s October 15 World Cup qualifier against Qatar, but he-s not fazed by the fact National Coach, Pim Verbeek will be in the stands watching him and team-mate, Shannon Cole go round on Saturday night.

“If I just go out and concentrate on my game and my job with Sydney then the other stuff will take care of itself,” Musialik said.

“I don-t care about what happened last week, it-s about what they do this week,” said Sydney mentor, Kosmina of his Socceroo selectees. “If they play well and make the National team I-m happy from the club-s point of view and happy from the player-s point of view.”

Representative honours aside, the main aim for all of Sydney-s stars in the round seven outing will be securing the three points against Queensland, and maintaining FC-s place at the top of the Hyundai A-League table.

The contest kicks off at 7pm at the SFS, after the conclusion of the National Youth League curtain raiser.
