Sydney FC first team stars Terry McFlynn, Blake Powell, Vedran Janjetovic and Mitch Mallia have put on a very special training session for the boys of St Aloysius College.
The school won the exclusive two hour hit-out after a father of one of the pupils won it in an football lunch auction.
“We-ve been teaching them some basics such as receiving it on the back foot, communication which is very important in the game and trying to see the next pass,” said Sydney FC striker Blake Powell.
“There are some good up and coming talented players who are going to come through in a couple of years, so I-m looking forward to seeing more of them.”
The boys were put through a number training drills testing technique and passing, before moving onto a shooting drill and finishing up with a small sided game.
“It was great fun and good to learn from the professionals,” said defender Alex Robinson. “They showed me how to open up and improve my ball skills.
“It-s good to see them on TV and then in person. It-s a good experience and I-ll tell all my friends about it.
“I-m not a member but I might sign up because I-ve realised how great they are and I-d like to see some games.”
Goalkeeper Keegan Gyoery was also impressed by the session: “You can learn a lot from them and they give you a few tips and pointers about what they-ve experienced during the game,” he said.
Midfielder Zac Sanchez agreed and wanted to come back for more: “It-s definitely an experience that I enjoyed and would definitely like to do in the future.”
