I Want To Score The Winner And Jump in The Cove – Sotirio

Hear from Jaushua Sotirio ahead of his potential debut for Sydney FC

New Sydney FC signing Jaushua Sotirio says he has a dream of scoring a late winning goal on debut and getting right amongst it with the fans.

Sotorio played under Talay at Wellington Phoenix and he spoke to the press following his announcement on Friday afternoon highlighting how excited he is to get involved at Sydney FC and his keenness to celebrate with The Cove should he get on the scoresheet.

“I’ve been training for a week or so here so I am so excited to be at this club and Sydney are obviously one of the biggest clubs in the league.

“I’ve had a tough 18 month period in India but I am back now fully fit and I am looking forward to being back in Sydney with my family,” Sotirio said.

“Whenever you think of the A-League you think of Sydney FC and so I am super excited to be here and keen for the challenge.”

Ufuk Talay signed Sotirio when he was at the Wellington Phoenix and the 29-year-old scored 14 goals for the Kiwi club.

He knows how to unlock the best of him and while they missed out on success, Sotirio is determined to change that this time around.

“He [Talay] is a great manager and we had a great time together at Wellington.

“We were close to winning a trophy but in the end it wasn’t meant to be but this time around I feel like it will be different and this will be the one,” Sotirio said.

“Obviously there are some high profile players here like Douglas Costa and Joe Lolley and I am looking forward to contributing to the team, getting some goals and some assists.

“It’s six games unbeaten now so hopefully we keep that momentum going.”

The Sky Blues have a short turnaround following their clash on Wednesday against Wellington Phoenix and take on Brisbane Roar on Saturday afternoon at Allianz Stadium.

And with Sotirio in line to potentially make his debut, the striker is hoping to seal the perfect debut in front of the home fans.

“I’ve got a big smile on my face at the thought of making my debut and the dream would be to come on in the final 10-15 minutes and score a goal and celebrate that with the home fans.

“If I score I’ll definitely get in there and celebrate with The Cove,” he concluded.
