Socceroos Full Back Joel King Makes Permanent Switch Home

Sydney FC have completed the re-signing of Socceroos full back Joel King on a permanent basis from Danish club Odense BK after a successful second half to the season.

The 22-year old Australian left back rejoined the Sky Blues on loan in January, a year after his initial switch to the Danish first division club.

He returns to Sydney FC for the next three seasons after agreeing a new three-year deal.

“It’s fantastic to be coming home again to play for this great club,” he said.

“I felt at home the minute I returned to Sydney FC and can’t wait to get a full season under my belt.

“I’m keen to ensure I continue to improve and improve a lot more this season.

“This club is in my blood and it’s an honour to be representing and wearing the Sky Blue.”

Head Coach Steve Corica and Luke Brattan congratulate Joel King after defeating Perth Glory.

King won a starting spot in the final two months of the campaign and his performances convinced Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica that the best is yet to come.

“Joel showed what a class player he is and what a huge benefit he can bring to the club at the end of last season.

“He’d had a few months without playing but worked himself back into the group brilliantly and showed he is one of the best full backs in the country.

“He was deservedly part of the recent Socceroos squad taking on Argentina and we will see the best of him this coming season.”

King made 13 appearances on returning last season, five of which came from the bench.

He has played 88 times in total for Sydney FC and four times for Australia.

The defender has been part of two Championship and one Premiership winning squads.
