Sydney FC will play the first of their pre-season games next week when they take on IGA NSW NPL Men-s 2 team Macarthur Rams at Campbelltown Stadium on Wednesday July 16 (kick off 7:30pm).
The Sky Blues and the Rams have a history that stretches back five years, with the two teams coming face to face each pre-season since 2009 with the Sky Blues having the wood on their state league opposition.
In their five encounters Sydney FC are yet to lose to the Rams, with the Harbour City club holding three wins and two draws, scoring seven goals and conceding two.
In their most recent encounter, the Rams held a young Sky Blues squad to a 1-1 draw with Christopher Naumoff scoring a delightful chipped goal to level the scores on a slippery Campbelltown Stadium surface.
This year the Rams finished second in the IGA NSW NPL Men-s 2 competition after their 15 games, winning seven, drawing five and losing three to finish five points off first place.
Ali Abbas, who scored against the Rams during the Sky Blues 3-1 victory in 2012, said he was looking forward to the encounter and that he enjoys facing the Campbelltown team each year.
“It-s always a good run out against the Rams,” said Abbas.
“They are a tough team and they finished second in their season this year so I think it will be a good test.
“Graham-s new training regime has really got the boys fired up and I think we are really looking good this year. Hopefully we can start on the front foot with a win and it would be nice to score against them again.”
The gates open at Campbelltown Stadium on Wednesday at 4.30pm with kick off at 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced at $15 for an adult and $5 for a child/concession.
Family tickets are $30 per family (2 adults and 3 children) plus Sydney FC will be setting up a Membership/Merchandise tent just inside the main gates.
