Sydney FC’s Australian marquee Alex Brosque and goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic presented Sky Blues charitable partner Football United with a cheque for $3,095 this week as Football United celebrated their Festival Day at Daceyville.
The Sky Blues raised the money through the auction of their inaugural Westfield FFA Cup Jerseys with 43 lucky bidders walking away with a piece of Sydney FC history and supporting a good cause at the same time.
Marquee and club captain Alex Brosque praised the Football United initiative and said he was proud to be a part of their Festival Day.
“I think what [Founding director of Football United] Ann has done here with Football United is fantastic,” he said.
“It gives kids all around the world the opportunity to do what they love and what we love which is play football. It just shows that it doesn’t matter what race or gender you are, you can get on the field and enjoy it just as much.
“It’s fantastic group of people that have come together to do something like this and it’s good to be a part of it as well,” he continued.
“It was great for the fans to jump online and bid and see the money go towards something like this because this is grassroots football and it’s a chance for kids from everywhere to get their chance and to participate in football and it’s a great cause.”
