Match Report: Sydney FC have lost the chance to go top of the A-League ladder after going down 4-0 in the Australia day Big Blue.
The home side started the game the better of the two sides and had two goals disallowed in the first 15 minutes for offside as they pressurised the Sky Blues goal.
Talay’s men also had Devenish-Meares to thank for a save from Santos’ goalbound effort to keep the score goalless.
As the half wore on Sydney FC came back into the match with Wood managing to get into shooting positions and twice forcing keeper Warshawsky into good saves as neither side could break the deadlock at half time.
Alex Grant was substituted just before the break after taking an elbow to the face for which Vergos was booked.
Davidson had a goal disallowed for handball just after half time but it wasn’t long before Victory were ahead when Santos picked up the ball and curled it home from just inside the box on 54 minutes.

Devenish-Meares was called into action shortly after with a brilliant save to stop it becoming 2-0 however Santos did double the advantage 10 minutes later when he was sent clear to finish.
Campuzano had a goal disallowed for an earlier offside in a goal from a short corner three-quarters of the way through the contest.
Jelacic put the game beyond doubt with a strike from outside the box in the 78th minute, before Jackson made it 4-0 in the 82nd minute to complete the scoring.
What They Said: Ufuk Talay: “I thought we started off ok but we let them come into the game, we struggled with the basic fundamentals of controlling the ball and passing the ball.
“Our decision making let us down and the desire let us down. We were lacklustre in the final third and that’s not good enough to score a goal.
“We need to get our fundamentals right and we’ve got the derby this week which is the greatest thing to get back on track.
“There’s a certain level of expectation at this club when you pull on that shirt and you need to be at it. That wasn’t it from our players tonight.”
