Sky Blues Attack Hits Stubborn Defence

It was case of Sky Blue attacking dominance and a stubborn Roar defence at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, as we continued our unbeaten start to the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

Josh Brillante’s wonder strike was cancelled out as Thomas Kristensen equaliser for Brisbane against the run of play just before half time for the scores to finish at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Going forward, the Sky Blues peppered Brisbane’s goal with 18 shots, compared to the hosts 12, with nine shots being fired at goal from inside and outside the box respectively.

Strength in distribution aided in Sydney FC’s push forward, as the Sky Blues finished the match with a 74.6% passing accuracy from 394 passes and a passing accuracy in Brisbane’s half of 65.7%, superior again to the Roar’s 60.3%.

The Sky Blues’ pressing game worked wonders in forcing turnovers, with 30 interceptions won by Sydney FC’s squad, and duels both aerially and on the ground dominated, with 72.4% of all aerial duels won by the Sky Blues and 53.2% of ground duels won.

Defensively the Sky Blues made 19 tackles for an accuracy of 73.7% while making 25 clearances compared to the Roar’s 29 clearances that kept us at bay.

The below average position chart shows our attacking intent that will again be on display on Saturday at Allianz Stadium against Adelaide United (kick off 7:50pm), as you can see eight Sky Blue players spending the majority of the match in the Roar’s half, compared to their four in our half.
